What I'm Doing...

  • 01Aug

failureSeveral years ago, I was dating this guy and we decided to take a break. Months later we reconnected and decided to have dinner. We had a wonderful evening. At least I thought so until I discovered a few days later he was in the midst of planning his wedding. Yes, he was about to marry someone else! When I asked him why he’d failed to tell me before we went to dinner, he quipped that he was only getting married. He said, “If it doesn’t work out, I can always get a divorce.”

I was livid at first!! Then, I felt sorry for his future wife. If he was already looking for a way out, what did that say about his commitment (or lack thereof) to the marriage in the first place?

Like my uncommitted ex, I’ve seen too many business folk do the same thing. They include “it’ on their list of options and possibilities. Call “it” what you will. I call it failure and wonder if it truly is an option you want to keep on the list.

Have you given your business 100% of your time, energy, blood, sweat, tears and bodily fluids? Yep, it takes all of that and more sometimes. I’m not suggesting that you die trying mind you. I am suggesting; however, that you remain open to ways to insert possibility into your business in everything you do.

It’s called having an unwavering commitment to your business!  Tell me: Is failure STILL an option for you? I know I’m ranting but this is real! Leave me a comment.

If you’re following this series about transitioning from an Entrepreneur to CEO, then you read my post about why I truly believe that good health is such an important part of the process. Maintaining a healthy mind is equally important.

During these tough economic times, top CEOs report heightened stress and demands on their mental energy. Taking the initiative to develop a healthier mindset while you’re an entrepreneur will surely help you to thrive. In the midst of what seems to be a major set back, a CEO with a healthy mindset can handle the demands of the job with a spirit of infinite joy.

Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinketh, so is he.” This is the foundation for the most profound laws and philosophies by which we live. I love it because it’s so very clear - the mind is the breeding ground for what’s possible in everything that you do in life and business. When you feed your mind with positive aspects of all things possible, these thoughts are revealed in your walk, your talk, and all that you do. Whatever you harbor in the mind will reside in your life and ultimately, your business.

I encourage you to use these phenomenal yet simple ways to promote infinite joy in your life and business:

Surround yourself with positive people. You recognize these powerful people because you feel absolutely amazing when you’re around them. It’s not just about fun. It’s also about productivity, resourcefulness and accomplishment. You readily feel yourself growing whenever you’re near these very, kewl people. How KEWL is that?!

Read books, blogs and stories that empower and inspire you. Pour encouragement into your mind by feasting on writing that stimulates and guides you to take favorable action. It’s all about tapping into what keeps you motivated and optimistic. You want to maintain a high level of confidence and reading “the good stuff” is a surefire way to do just that.

Invest in personal and professional development programs that support you in meeting your goals. Be very strategic about the people and services you employ to build in support and to acquire the skills that help you and your business to steadily grow. Remember, this is an investment in you that pays big dividends.

Pray, meditate and set clear intentions that guide your choices. Using these very positive tools helps you manage your business with integrity and honor. Integrity is assured because you’re guided by a higher calling in every decision. You also honor yourself because your actions and business choices are totally in alignment with the entrepreneur or CEO you choose to be. I totally recommend Be Still: Learn to Meditate in 10 Minutes a Day by my friend and colleague, Barbara Faison.

Having a healthy mind is a very important step on your journey to transition from entrepreneur to CEO. Incorporate these activities and you’ll find you’re well prepared for the demands, challenges and anything that comes your way.

How are you promoting infinite joy in your life and business?
